TerraHub and Haskayne School of Business Launch Executive Blockchain Program

April 9, 2020

TerraHub and Haskayne School of Business Executive Education at the University of Calgary proudly announce the first Executive Business Blockchain Program  in Calgary starting on May 24 with a second offering starting June 18, 2018.

TerraHub and Haskayne Executive Education have created a program with input from industry, professional associations and faculty on the most relevant topics related to blockchain for executives. “Working with Haskayne’s Executive Education team to develop a new chapter in executive education and across all industries, is a symbolic, first step in understanding how this technology will shape our future,” said Dan Giurescu, founder of TerraHub. “We are looking forward to growing the blockchain ecosystem and connecting industry leaders with this technology.”

Blockchain adoption has been increasing over the past few years from a few edge cases to large investments and success stories. What started with Bitcoin, ten years ago, has fast advanced into an industry-based model, with solutions that are not related to cryptocurrencies at all. In the oil and gas industry, we have seen blockchain emerge in trade, joint venture as well as grid solutions, simplifying the buying, selling and receiving of assets. Other sectors rolling out blockchain solutions include agriculture, retail food, mining, construction and transportation. In all cases, the companies are using the technology to simplify back office processes, vendor and partner engagements, and improve margins.

“We are excited to be launching this new and innovative Executive Education program focusing on blockchain, a technology that is rapidly changing how organizations conduct business,” said Loren Falkenberg, senior associate dean, graduate and professional programs, Haskayne School of Business. “To increase efficiency and remain relevant, business leaders cannot afford to ignore blockchain. We are proud to be offering new insights regarding this emerging technology to increase the competitiveness of Alberta businesses and beyond.”

“TerraHub has been working with government, post-secondary institutions and startups to help determine the most impactful type of businesses that Calgary and Alberta need. Dan has brought together key community stakeholders to collaborate on teaching and launching blockchain technology to use it as a tool in attracting business investment in Calgary.” Mary Moran, CEO, Calgary Economic Development.

Alberta has been a prime spot for the growth of industrial high-tech solutions due to its existing infrastructure and industry knowledge. Today, we are seeing a number of high-impact inventions from Alberta being released across the world and transforming service-based industries, such as the energy sector. Launching post-secondary technical and non-technical programs for emerging technologies such as blockchain, will further provide the necessary education our skilled professionals need to continue bringing innovation to all industries.
